inolvidable.

NOIZE MAKES ENEMIES - by Martin Kendrick -

Stressed? Long day at the office? Then sit back and relax to
the multi-flavoured tones of Susana Lang – Lenton. Guitar
playing, jazz singing, native of the Canary Islands, now
making an impact on London stages. ‘Give It A Try’ is a
groove soaked album, full of style, sophistication and as
smooth as a Milk Tray advert. Produced to a glistening
finish, her individual vocal talent backed by a band tighter
than Johnny Borrel’s jeans, to witch she adds her guitar playing at various
points (to the band, not the jeans!) to give the overall sound warmth and
depth. Collectively they move seamlessly through Latin, soul, funk and
lounge vibes like a knife through butter.
With hints of Skye Edwards (ex-Morcheeba) and Madeleine Peyroux, balanced with that slight Spanish
inflection, Susana’s voice is an interesting twist on your average female jazz
vocalist. It has charisma and soul, character and confidence in abundance, a
real focal point for the songs, not just part of the canvas.
Lyrically her songs are light-hearted and uplifting mantras to melt away your troubles and
enjoy life’s pleasures as you dance the night away. Then walks you home to
ambient-lit moods and musings of romance. ‘Give It A Try’ will take from
the doldrums to the dance floor, to a romantic candlelight dinner without
stopping to take a breath. My advice? Give it a try; I think you just might
like it.
